Motorcyclist dies after collision with minibus door

A 23-year-old motorcyclist of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) is now dead following a collision with a minibus on Sunday evening on the Embankment Road in his village.

Dead is Lakeraj Kushera, called ‘Naresh’ who lived at Lot 450 Good Hope, ECD.

According to a police press release issued yesterday, the driver of the minibus Arjune Ramcharitar of Mon Repos, ECD, was about to enter his minibus and had opened the driver’s door.  Police said that it was at this point, that Kushera collided with the door and struck Ramcharitar down as well.  The motorcyclist was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) while the minibus driver has been admitted as a patient.

Ramrattie Churaman, the mother of the deceased, told this newspaper that the accident occurred just after 9 pm on Sunday.  She said her son had gone out and was returning home when he met his demise.

The woman said, when she arrived at the scene, her son was already dead.  The deceased was her eldest child. According to her, she was told that the driver suddenly opened the door in the path of her son.

The deceased leaves to mourn his parents, three other siblings; one brother and two sisters, his fiancé Sabreena and several other relatives and friends.
