Power restored to Linden

…source of voltage switch fire still unknown

The source of a fire which engulfed a high voltage switch cubicle at the BOSAI Power Plant in Linden has not been detected as yet but the company was able to restore power supply at about midnight on Monday.

Power Plant Supervisor Oswald Prince said that the origin of the flashover could not have been verified but the company was very diligent in its efforts to have the system up and running at the earliest possible time.

“We do not know what caused the flashover – it could have been water seepage in the system or something but we cannot say for sure,” said Prince. He added that it was a switch that blew up causing extensive damage.

Asked if the problem was completely fixed or whether a buffer system was put in place, Prince assured that the problem was completely fixed and they are currently working at establishing the source of the problem.

The entire Linden and nearby communities including Coomacka and Mariah Elizabeth/Three Friends Mines were thrown into darkness from approximately 2:30 pm on Monday until shortly before midnight.

The power went out in the midst of heavy rains and a thunderstorm.

The Bosai Power Plant is responsible for the production of electricity at Linden, the Linden Electric Com-pany (LECI) distributes electricity to Mackenzie, Coomacka and Three Friends Mines/Mariah Elizabeth and the Linden Utility Services Co-op Society Limited (LUSCSL) distributes electricity to Wismar. All these areas were affected on Monday.
