Pinch D Cash takes top money in race upset

Steve Muthoo of the Rumour’s Racing Stable receives the winning C class trophy from DDL Berbice Branch manager Albert Budhoo and Marketing assistant Alicia Anderson.

Pinch D Cash upset a field that included Sweet Revenge, Prince Charming and Annie’s Playmate to win the feature C class event on Sunday in the Kennard Memorial Turf Club Post-Emancipation Race Meet at Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.

A Digicel representative presents the trophy for the two-year-old event to Rovindra Persaud for Wicked Intention’s win.

Jamaican jockey Andron Findlay aboard Pinch D Cash  spurred his beast to victory in the seven-furlong race which had a winning purse of $500,000 and the El Dorado trophy. The race was sponsored by Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL).

When the race started there was a mechanical fault which resulted in the starting gates not opening. Officials had to resort to a flag start that automatically left some of the animals at a disadvantage since this method does not place each horse on an even keel.

However, the running was keen throughout most of the course with the lead changing as the horses battled for supremacy. And it was not until the final turn for home that Aldron made his move with Pinch D Cash.

He manoeuvered the beast through traffic, passing Sweet Revenge, Prince Charming and Annie’s Playmate in the process.

In the three-year-old event for horses bred in Guyana and the West Indies, Fairy Landing of the Jumbo Jet Stables, mounted by Daniel Flores, came out the winner from behind to earn $300,000. Top Fortune, Got to Go and Stormy Water were second, third and fourth respectively.

The race for Guyana bred two-year-olds, which was run over a distance of five furlongs, was won by Wicked Intention of Persaud Stables. The winner got $180,000 and the Digicel trophy; Apostle, Royal Salute and Kevin were the other top finishers.

And Baby Boy of the Seenarine Stables won the I-class six-furlong event that was sponsored by the International Pharmaceutical Agency (IPA) ahead of Fantastic Light, Lyana and Clear Victory. The winner took away $140,000 and the IPA trophy.

The I-3 maiden race was taken by Channel Boy of Persaud Stables with Daniel Floris in the stirrups. Sun Razor, Sporting Time and Lenny O Halo rounded out the other positions. Diplomat was the winner of the K & L and lower event while Black Beauty, Another Run and Sporting Time rounded out the money.
