The win enabled Milerock to move three points clear of the Guyana Defence Force after the two teams were tied on 25 points each going in to Sunday’s round.

Tournament leaders Alpha United moved to 36 points after edging the Guyana Defence Force 2-1 at GFC.

The win was the 11th out of the 14 matches played by Alpha with their three other games ending in draws.

At the Blairmont Community Development Centre Ground, Rosignol United continued their good form by toppling Bakewell Top XX 2 – 0.

Alpha United needs a victory or two draws to retain the title while Milerock is the only team with an outside chance of beating Alpha United to the title.

In Alpha United’s win over the GDF, national captain Howard Lowe scored in the 30th minute before GDF’s Stephen Dolphin equalised in the 74th minute.

The game seemed heading for a draw but in the final two minutes, the experienced Shawn Bishop caught goalkeeper Delon Young napping and booted home the game winner.

GDF remain on 25 points in the third position with three games remaining.

In Berbice, Delroy Fraser scored in the 19th minute and Olvis Mitchell in the 63rd minute for Rosignol United who now move to 23 points but remain in fifth position.

With the defeat, Top XX slipped into ninth position and face the danger of being relegated.

The competition continues on Saturday with three games; Liquid Gold and Camptown will clash at 8pm at the Bartica Ground; Buxton United meets Milerock at the Buxton Ground at 4pm and GDF faces Top XX from 6pm at the GFC Ground.

On Sunday Rosignol will host Victoria Kings at 4pm while the female league ends on Saturday with Georgetown and Linden opposing each other at the GFC Ground from 4pm and Bartica and East Coast battling at the Bartica Ground from 6pm.
