Heavy rains delay work on Eccles landfill

The opening of the new landfill site at Haags Bosch may be pushed back as the current heavy rainfall has been bringing earth work to a halt.

Yesterday when this newspaper spoke to Government Engineer Walter Willis, he said, “the work is behind schedule and the rain is making earth work difficult”.

The contract for Haags Bosch Sanitary Landfill, located behind Eccles, East Bank Demerara, stipulated a construction period of 12 months and an operation period of 10 years. Opening date for the new site was given
