In an election year

This is an election year with a difference…actually, several differences. By now, in previous election years, it would have already been patently clear who the presidential candidates for the major political parties were. That is not the case this time around. The ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) and its main opposition, the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) are yet to determine who will lead them at the polls. For both sides, choosing a presidential candidate is a protracted and, up to this time, still far from complete process. Both parties have decided that this time around their presidential would-be’s would be subjected to a measure of public and political scrutiny before a choice is eventually made.

That in itself is both historic and significant. For both political parties
