The city council tractor driver, who ran over an elderly man on Water Street, has been released by police without charge, leaving the dead man’s family furious.

The tractor driver was released on $50,000 station bail late Tuesday night, after being held by police since Monday afternoon. It is unclear why the driver was released, since a post-mortem examination has not yet been completed on the body of Compton Lacon.

Lacon’s daughter Audrey said that they first heard that the man was released when they turned up at the Georgetown Hospital Morgue for the post-mortem examination early yesterday morning.
