Bananas galore: This farmer, Christopher Williamson of No. 22, Bel Air, West Coast Berbice was overjoyed when he noticed three bunches of bananas on his farm growing larger than usual. Yesterday morning, Williamson, known as ‘Samo’ or ‘Dr. Soil’ reaped one of the huge bunches and couldn’t stop admiring it. He told Stabroek News that the bunch weighed 103 pounds and one ‘hand’ consisted of 25 of the fruit. A cash crop and cattle farmer for many years, Williamson recalled that 18 years ago he reaped a bunch that weighed 140 pounds with a single banana weighing one and a half pounds.
