Last wicket pair hand Windies A tense win

GROS ISLET, St Lucia, CMC – A nervy 17-run, last wicket stand between Sunil Narine and Nelon Pascal steered West Indies A to a tense win over Bangladesh A on the final day of the second and final four-day “Test” yesterday.

Narine hit an unbeaten 26 and Pascal was brave in finishing on 11 not out, as Windies A set 214 to win, finished on 217 for nine at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.

The hosts won the two-match series 1-0 after the first game in Antigua was drawn.
Resuming the day on 139 for three, the hosts lost six wickets for 61 runs to find themselves in danger of losing the match.

Both overnight batsmen Danza Hyatt (62) and Jonathan Carter (55) failed to push on and left-arm spinner Suhrawadi Shuvo (4-84) and fast bowler Robiul Islam (3-63) picked up quick wickets to put the visitors on the verge of victory.
But Pascal slammed a six early in his innings then lifted Shuvo to long-on for the winnings runs just before lunch.
Earlier, Hyatt resumed on 52 and Carter, 45, with Windies needing a further 75 runs to win.

The right-handed Hyatt started positively, square driving Robiul for four in the day’s first over, but was caught at the wicket off Shuvo in the next over.

His dismissal sparked a slide as Carter fell to Robiul in the following over, to leave Windies A on 160 for five.
Wickets tumbled until Narine came to his side’s rescue, stroking three fours in 34 balls faced, to keep the hosts in the contest.

He found an ally in Pascal with 14 runs needed for victory and together they held their nerve to take West Indies A over the line.

Suhrawadi Shuvo was voted Man-of-the-Match for his seven-wicket match haul while all-rounder Andre Russell claim the Man-of-the-Series award.
