(De Ware Tijd) PARAMARIBO – the Surinamese government has “problems” with the 2006 treaty between Suriname and France that allows police of both countries to be present as observers 2 kilometers land inwards each others’ territories. Tuesday, Foreign Affairs (BUZA) Minister Winston Lackin told Parliament that the government wants a complete revision of this treaty that is in violation of the territorial principle whereby Surinamese territory is entered by French police. This matter is now being discussed with French authorities and Suriname’s Ambassador in Paris Harvey Naarendorp has been given “clear instructions” regarding the revision of this treaty. Since its closing, this treaty has been subject to lots of criticism. Especially A Combination has over and over indicated to be against the treaty.
