Yesterday’s rainfall: The Hydrometeorological Service as at 8.00 hours on January 30th, 2012, received reports from a number of its rainfall stationsa cross the country. These reports give a total accumulated rainfall between 8.00 hours January 29th to 8.00 hours January 30th, 2012. Data collected so far indicated that many stations along the coast and near inland locations exceeded 100mm in 24 hours. The highest recorded rainfall was 169.2 mm which was reported at Wakenaam in Region 3. Other values exceeding 100mm was reported at Anna Regina (104.5 mm), Arpiarco (122.3mm) and at Wakapoa (130.3mm).

The weather outlook: During the next 24 hours current conditions will be sustained with light to moderate intermittent rainfall. Ocassional heavy downpours are likely during the period as well. Rainfall quantities are likely to exceed 75mm in the next 24 hours ending 8.00 am January 31st.

The D&I Update will be updated twice per day at 9.00 in the morning and at 4.00 in the afternoon for the next week. Guyana has experienced heavier than normal amount of rainfall over the last 48 hours. The heavy rains have caused the drainage system to be challenged and in some cases floods have resulted.

1 Rainfall heavy over the last three days. Flood threat at Hobodai, Arukamai, Lower Kariabo, Aruka Mouth, and Upper and Lower Kaituma, St. Anslem and Quebanna

3 Minor flooding in mostly farming areas in Canals Polder One and Two.

-High water levels in Ruimzegt, Ruby Back, La Grange, Goed Fortuin and Pouderoyen. 

-Water levels high in La Bagatille, Thierens and Canefield, Leguan

 

Water levels High in   La Grange, Goed Fortuin, Pouderoyen and Canals One and Two Polders.   

-High water levels experienced at Lat Bagatille, Thierens and Canefield, Leguan and Wakenaam Islands.

4 Flooding in areas such as Lusignan, Montrose, Paradise, Enterprise, Dazzel Housing Scheme, Hope/Dochfour, Clonbrook, Greenfield and Beehive.

 

High waters are experienced across the coast.

 

Water building up at Buxton. Water is also building up at Triumph.    

 

On the EBD, Diamond is flooded

 

Water levels High in  Triumph, Lusignan, Enterprise, Montrose, Paradise, Dazzel Housing Scheme, Hope/Dochfour, Clonbrook, Beehive, Buxton, Mahaica, Cane Grove, ECD and Diamond, EBD

 

5 -There is flooding in low housing areas at Golden Fleece, No.27 and 28, D’Edward, Blairmont, Waterloo.

Ithaca, Rosignol, Bath, Cotton tree and  Hope/Experiment housing schemes

-Water levels are high across the region but has started to recede by gravity drainage.

Water has begun receding at Rosignol.

-Water level has risen two feet in Macooba, Mahaicony Creek

 

6 Flooding in low areas from Palmyra to Borlam,  

High waters at No.19, Letter Kenny, Wellington Park, Black Bush Polder and Whim.

Water has been receding in affected areas.

Canjie has experienced flooding

Water levels are high from Palmyra to Borlam, Canje, Letter Kenny, Wellington Park, Black Bush Polder and Whim.
10 No reports of flooding. Water levels manageable.

 

Flooding in areas of the city including South Georgetown, Bel Air, sections of Queenstown and South Cummingsburg. High waters levels in South Georgetown, Bel Air, sections of Queenstown and South Cummingsburg.

 

High waters levels in canals in Enmore, Montrose and LBI and Good Hope, ECD, Region Four and Uitvlugt, Region Three and Albion, Region Six. High water levels in Enmore, Montrose and LBI, ECD, Region Four, Uitvlugt, Region Three and Albion, Region Six.

          East Demerara Water Conservancy

 

The Water Conservancy Level is manageable. We will continue to monitor the level of the East     Demerara and other water conservancies in Guyana.
