Website launched to make remittances more transparent

A website was launched last Thursday to provide detailed and updated monthly information on how much it costs to send money from the United States to six Central American countries and the Dominican Republic, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) said in a news release.

The Center for Latin American Monetary Studies (CEMLA, for its initials in Spanish), the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the World Bank launched enviacentroamerica.org, a free online tool to compare and make transparent the costs of remittances from the U.S. to  Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Dominican Republic. The costs are calculated based on amounts of US$200 and US$500.
