Geotechnical engineer and groundwater hydrologist Charles Ceres says that Guyana’s Olympic-size swimming pool could have been built for one third of the money spent.
Minister of Sport, Dr Frank Anthony on Thursday in a written response to a question by AFC MP Khemraj Ramjattan about the cost of the National Aquatic Centre at Liliendaal detailed the figures for consultancies for design and supervision, and construction, which totalled $581,367,932. In a press release the ministry also outlined design and engineering difficulties that plagued the project, necessitating reviews and resulting in a six-month suspension of works at one point.
