BRIDGETOWN, Barbados,  CMC – Guyana’s spinners triggered a late order Windward Islands batting collapse to force a 53-run victory on the final day of their fourth round match in the Regional Under-19 three-day Championship here yesterday.

Set a target of 197 for victory, the Windwards collapsed from a comfortable position of 131 for four to 143 all out, losing their last six wickets for 12 runs in quick time at Queen’s Park.

Off-spinner Mohan Ramdeen was the chief architect of the triumph, claiming five for 14 while left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai supported brilliantly with four for 54.

Only Gidron Pope with a fighting 77 offered any resistance as no other batsmen made it past 15.

The Windwards were against the ropes at 53 for three before Pope and Gian Benjamin (15) combined in a 51-run fourth wicket stand to steady the innings.

Keone George drove Motie-Kanhai to captain Shawn Pereira at mid-off to depart for five with the score on 16 and captain Jerlani Robinson also fell cheaply at 34 for two, caught at mid-on for seven by Romario Shepherd playing a casual stroke off Ramdeen.

Taryck Gabriel then perished at gully off Pereira for eight, to leave the Wndwards in trouble.

Pope and Benjamin played well to keep to keep the Windwards in the hunt and they seemed set to head to tea without further loss when Benjamin was taken behind playing a loose shot at Motie-Kanhai.

Perched on 108 for four at tea, the Windwards again appeared to have found their footing though a 26-run partnership between Pope and Roland Cato (11) before things fell apart.

Overall, Pope faced 194 balls in 211 minutes at the crease and stroked five fours.

Earlier, Guyana were dismissed for 249 after resuming the day on 167 for five.

Pereira hit an important 47 that consumed 144 balls and 154 minutes while Ricardo Adams chipped in with 31.

Left-arm spinner Larry Edward finished with four for 48 while left-arm seamer Preston McSween took three for 63.
