Volunteers wanted for ‘Pick it up’ campaign

The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment is inviting persons to join the volunteer effort as its recently launched ‘Pick it up Guyana’ jingle and volunteer programme gains momentum.

According to a press release from the ministry, the objective of the programme is to have Non-Governmental Organisations, youth groups and others voluntarily cleaning up their communities and starting environmental initiatives within their communities. They are expected to assist in mobilizing companies, groups and persons interested in becoming advocates for the environment by coordinating anti-littering events at the community level.

To date, the ministry said Lions and Leo clubs, the Girl Guides and PYARG have pledged their support. Sessions will be held to equip volunteers to function as environmental advocates by
