The Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera) hybrids originates from the tropical rainforest of Brazil. However the Christmas cacti that are available today are specially bred hybrids. Imitate the conditions of its natural habitat and the Christmas cactus will thrive. It needs good light and a little moisture, while a little mixture of sand and promix will do nicely when repotting. The stems are like arching links of flat green leaves with toothed segments.
