GPF extinguishes Fire Service in Balram Raghubir final

Defending champs the Guyana Police Force retained the Balram Raghubir Joint Services limited overs title when they defeated the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) in the final played recently at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.

Batting first GFS struggled to 157 all out with Stephan Adams, 31, Devon Harte, 28 and Suresh Persaud, 26 the principal scorers.

Andrew Williams, 17 and Royston Simon 11 were also among the runs as Troy Benn and Lyndon Wilson bagged three wickets each.

Benn ended with 3-14, Wilson 3-26 while chipped in with Sheldon Agard 2-24 and Kelvin Leitch 2-36.

Police reached 162-7 in only 29.4 overs with Benn crowning a fine all-round match by hitting the top score of 44 and innings that included six fours and two sixes. Benn and Ameer Mohamed put on an opening stand of 69 and Mohamed and Eric Engel added 43 for the second wicket.
