Defending men’s singles champion Anthony Downes defeated Jason Andrews in straight sets as action in the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Open lawn tennis tournament continued at the company’s Recreational Club, Kaieteur Street Bel-Air Park on Monday.
Downes moved one step closer to defending his title when he crushed Andrews 6-1, 6-0.
In the men’s over 35 singles division, Harry Panday and Carlos Adams recorded victories on the evening as they defeated Dick Wesenhagen and Albert Madramootoo by 6-2, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-0 scores respectively while
Afruica Gentle blanked Maria Stephens 6-0, 6-0 in the sole ladies singles encounter.
