ian on sundayIn teaching me about life when I was a boy my father always took pains to impress upon me the value of time – more precious than the rarest metal and not something hoardable. He was accustomed to give two examples of wasting time. One was the disgrace of unpunctuality which wasted other people’s time. And the other was the insidious, subtle and irretrievable waste of one’s own time which went by the name of procrastination. I have always remembered his words.

By an exercise of will it is perfectly possible to cure oneself of unpunctuality. Overcoming the tendency to procrastinate is much more difficult.
