KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC- New Zealand’s Women’s cricketers have arrived in the Caribbean to play West Indies in a three-match One Day International series starting on Sunday at Sabina Park, Jamaica.
Coach Katrina Keenan says her players are on the hunt for revenge after West Indies knocked them out of the ICC Women’s World Cup in February during the Super Six stage.
Trinidadian off-spinner Anisa Mohammed led West Indies to a 48 run win over New Zealand to advance to the finals which they lost to Australia.
“We lost to the West Indies in the World Cup, however, since then, we have had a comprehensive build-up over the off-season,” said Keenan, who, along with members of the team, arrived in Jamaica on Tuesday.
“We are, therefore, confident in our preparations and are looking forward to the rematch, which we hope will end with us coming out on top.”
The second game will be played next Tuesday and the final game next Thursday at the same venue.
Keenan has described the New Zealand women cricketers, known as the White Ferns, as a strong and balanced unit.
“We have a well-balanced team with a mixture of experienced players and with the likes of Suzie Bates, who is ranked as the number one in the ODI batting rankings, Nicola Browne, Suzie Bates, and Amy Satterhwaite,” she explained.
