Gov’t backtracks on US$30M recycling plant

The government has scrapped its agreement with Natural Globe Guyana Inc for the construction of a solid waste recycling plant over concerns highlighted in the press about the developer, who admitted that his firm had only ever built a prototype of the proposed US$30 million facility.

The announcement was made yesterday by Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon, who told reporters that Cabinet made the decision during a meeting on Tuesday to withdraw the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the company. The move is an about face for Cabinet, which had given its no-objection
