Tubal ligation
As promised last week I will now deal with tubal ligation as a surgical method for birth control. Tubal ligation is simply the tying off of the two fallopian tubes, also known as oviducts. These ‘tubes’ or ducts lead eggs from each ovary into each branch of the womb (in dogs and cats, unlike humans, the womb has two branches, or ‘horns’). Actually, in most cases, the sperm cells of the males meet (fertilize) the eggs from the ovaries when the eggs are in the fallopian tubes (oviduct). On other occasions, the fertilization of the egg takes place in the uterine horn (branches of the womb).
