On January 5, I wrote a column, entitled ‘My Crusade’ detailing the lack of protection and even maltreatment of women in Guyana by law enforcement officers. I highlighted a handful of cases that were typical across the country and demonstrated the clearly uncaring and apathetic approach towards women who by law expect to be protected by law enforcement. Some were even further victimised by those who are sworn to protect them.
In this column I will provide more cases that have occurred since the January 5 column as an update on how this untenable situation continues for women. It is my intent to continue these columns until women finally receive the protection they are entitled to by those who are paid to do so with taxpayer money.
