Law enforcement’s (mis)treatment of women

On January 5, I wrote a column, entitled ‘My Crusade’ detailing the lack of protection and even maltreatment of women in Guyana by law enforcement officers. I highlighted a handful of cases that were typical across the country and demonstrated the clearly uncaring and apathetic approach towards women who by law expect to be protected by law enforcement. Some were even further victimised by those who are sworn to protect them.
