Vriesa splendens commonly called Swordtail or Flaming Sword comes from the bromeliad family and originated from Venezuela and the Guianas where it grows in trees in the rainforest. It was later introduced to Europe in 1840 and was named after a Dutch botanist. It has been sighted in our forest in Guyana.
