Under fire over its logging here and broken promises, Chinese company Bai Shan Lin yesterday said that it is assisting with a massive road rehabilitation programme in Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice).

A release from the company yesterday said that the work, which began on Friday, will see approximately five miles of internal roadways in Kwakwani being rehabilitated and is expected to be concluded within ten days. The company has been accused of destroying roads in several parts of the country.

The release from the company said that the newly formed Linden Kwakwani Road Users Association which represents several logging associations in Region Ten is spearheading the rehabilitation efforts with support from members of the Kwakwani Natural Resources Organisation and the Upper Berbice Forest and Agriculture Producers Association.

Chairman of Bai Shan Lin, Chu Wenze was quoted as saying that the company is happy to be associated with this initiative and stands ready to continue lending support to the communities which benefit from the company’s operations.
