Miner dies in pit cave-in

Another miner is dead after the mining pit he was working in, caved in.

Confirmed dead is 42-year-old Nolan Lindie of Berbice River.

According to his brother Stanley he was working in a mining pit at White Hole, Mahdia some time after 10 am yesterday when he became trapped in a landslide. “A landslide catch he in de pit and cover him,” he said while informing this newspaper that the body has since been recovered and is presently at the Mahdia Hospital Morgue.

Stanley said that Lindie and four other persons were working in the pit at the time. The man said that his brother who has been working in the mines for the last 15 to 20 years contacted him by telephone about three hours before the accident occurred and they had their usual conversation. He said that during Lindie’s time working in the interior he had never expressed any fear about the conditions under which he worked.
