The Rotary Club of Demerara donated three computers to the Guyana Prison Service earlier this month to support the facility’s education programme.

The Guyana Prison Service’s Literacy Programme was initiated in 2005 by Rotary Past President Dale Erskine, a press release from the Club said. The initiative is in keeping with Rotary International’s main area of focus ‘Basic Education and Literacy.’

Over the years, the Club of Demerara has supported the prison’s education programme by providing resource persons to teach literacy, and by equipping and enhancing the classroom to create an environment that is conducive to learning. The Club has been able to continue in this endeavour via the ongoing support of corporate sponsors like Digicel Guyana and Dapper Technology.
