Driver released on $250,000 bail after denying causing woman’s death

The driver accused of causing the death of Carol Overton-Dawson, the woman who was fatally struck along the Mocha Access Road last Friday evening, was yesterday released on $250,000 bail after denying dangerous driving when he appeared in a city court.

It is alleged that on November 7, Delroy Beresford, of 77 Quamina Road, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara, drove motor vehicle PPP 9521 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Overton-Dawson.

Beresford pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

According to Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, Beresford was speeding north along the Mocha Access Road,
