Guyana on track to eliminating mother-to-child passage of HIV – UNAIDS

Guyana is among thirteen Caribbean countries on track to be certified as having eliminated mother-to- child transmission of HIV with three being close to reaching this goal, a release from UNAIDS Caribbean said yesterday on the eve of World AIDS Day.

It stated that national validation processes are underway throughout the region to confirm reported rates, making it likely that by 2015 a Caribbean country will be the first in the world to announce that it has ended HIV (Human Immuno-deficiency Virus) transmission from mothers to babies.
