Edward Skeete, the man accused of the murder of Industry businessman Bedi Ramjeiwan in 2011, was yesterday found not guilty by a 12-member jury.

After an hour of deliberations, the jury returned with the not guilty verdict but Skeete was not set free because he is currently serving a sentence for another crime.

Skeete was on trial before Justice James Bovell-Drakes for the April, 27, 2011 murder and he was represented by defence attorney Nigel Hughes. Attorney Narissa Leander presented the state’s case.

Ramjeiwan, 38, was shot after being beaten severely in the head with a helmet by two men. He was returning home in his car when he was confronted by two men along Crown Dam, Industry, East Coast Demerara.

It is believed that the businessman was relieved of a bag with money, as well as a quantity of gold jewellery before he was beaten and shot. His attackers escaped on a motorcycle.
