The Guyana Defence Force had the vicinity completely blocked off in `C’ Field Sophia after the rioting that occurred on Election Day.
The Guyana Defence Force had a truck on site the day after the civil unrest in `C’ Field Sophia. On Election Day residents destroyed eight vehicles, burned a shack with a stable attached, while attempting to set fire to a residence of a PPP/C supporter that was thought to have ballot boxes inside. The private residence was acting as a party command centre.
The Joint Services blocked off the roadway to vehicular traffic yesterday while inspectors could be seen throughout the scene of the arson attack, collecting evidence.
Along the dam in `C’ Field, Sophia new fires began after heavy winds this morning reignited old wood. The Fire Service was seen coming in to assist the Police and the Guyana Defence Force with containing and controlling the area as investigations were underway.
One of the eight destroyed vehicles was still smouldering this afternoon. Many residents in the `C’ Field Sophia community were along the roadway watching as members of the Joint Services conducted their investigations. It was a chaotic scene on Election evening as ranks fired warning shots at the massive crowd which remained unmoved.
