Mexican Embassy joins the clean-up campaign

The Mexican Embassy today said that it joined the clean-up campaign by tidying up the surroundings of its Brickdam Road building.

On the initiative of the local employees of the mission, the release said that Mexican diplomats joined them in an effort to clean up the road and trenches and trimming plants and grass.

Ambassador Ivan Sierra, who was recently posted to Guyana, praised the effort of the Guyanese employees and showed his support in this mission. He said “it is an effort that is rewarded by itself when we enjoy a better environment (if) we add the efforts of other organisations, the goal of having an improved and aesthetically pleasing Georgetown will be achieved”.

Glendon Johnson, an employee who has been working since the Embassy opened its doors in 2009 said: “we would like to implore Guyanese to keep their environment clean and join this type of initiative”.

The employees of the Embassy pledged their commitment to continue with this effort. “We started with this side of the road, next time we want to go across the street” added Ronessa Mc Adam, expressing confidence in the continuance of the participation of other groups in the cleanup campaign.
