Floodwater recedes in Albouystown

Floodwater recedes in Albouystown: Water has receded along Hunter Street, in Albouystown after heavy rainfall flooded the community on Sunday. When Stabroek News visited Albouystown yesterday, water was only seen covering part of the road on Hunter Street, while most of the other streets were clear. However, drains were still overflowing. Almost every corner in the village was previously covered by floodwater, which had inundated lower flat homes. Due to the severity of the situation, residents were forced to barricade roadways to prevent vehicles from driving through the streets because they created waves that pushed more floodwater into their homes. Residents were relieved yesterday that the water had finally receded, although they remained upset that flooding is still a prominent problem in Albouystown. “It ain matta if it’s heavy rain or lil rain, this place always flooding. It’s the drainage problem, it’s always blocked and sometime the koker don’t even work properly,” one resident said.
