Minister of Governance Raphael Trotman has been named Chairman of the Lottery Control Commission.
This body oversees the monies collected from the state’s proceeds from the Guyana Lottery Company games. The commission has been the subject of controversy for many years as the monies collected were not deposited into the Consolidated Fund and were utilized at the discretion of PPP/C governments without parliamentary approval. Several commentators including former Auditor General Anand Goolsarran had pressed for the proceeds to be channelled into the Consolidated Fund.
