The true meaning of emancipation is “not only about the abolition of slavery, but also the arrival of Indentureship… and by extension, the birth of our nation” were the words of Dr. Nicolette Henry, Minister within the Ministry Education with responsibility for Culture, Youth and Sport, as she opened an emancipation exhibition at Guyana’s National Museum, Church Street Georgetown, GINA said today.
The month long event is one of the several activities being held in respect to Guyana’s celebrating one hundred and seventy seven years (177) of freedom from slavery.
