At about 1145h. yesterday, the police say that a mining pit caved in at Toroparu Backdam, Cuyuni River, which resulted in the death of miner Omet Samuels, 38 years, of Queenstown, Essequibo, who was trapped beneath.
Investigations are in progress.
The death comes even as the APNU+AFC government has set up an inquiry into deaths caused by the collapses of mining pits.
