A total of 28 new Project Trust volunteers have arrived in Guyana, ahead of the start of the new academic term, to take up teaching posts in fourteen hinterland communities, a release from the UK High Commission said today.
The volunteers, who will be here for one academic year, will be posted in the communities of Wauna, Yarashirima, Leguan, Orealla, Bartica, Paramakatoi, Kato, Chenapau, Shulinab, Sawariwau, Sand Creek, Aishalton, Goshen and Kwakwani.
As part of the volunteer’s orientation programme in Georgetown, they took part in training sessions with the Ministry of Education. Additionally, they visited with the British High Commissioner, Greg Quinn and his family at the High Commissioner’s residence, the release said. The British High Commissioner said:
“I was extremely privileged to meet these 28 volunteers and to welcome them to Guyana. I have no doubt of the value of the teaching they will provide in the coming year. They are but the latest of the over 400 Project Trust volunteers who have come here since 1995. This is very much a collaborative venture with Project Trust and the Ministry of Education working closely together with Regional Education Officers and Head Teachers – all for the benefit of young people in the hinterland.”
Project Trust In-Country Representative, Kala Seegopaul, said that Project Trust is grateful for the continued support of the Ministry of Education, Regional Education Officers and Head Teachers in the various Regions where Project Trust has volunteers.
