A woman who gave her name as Vanessa Spooner was yesterday handcuffed to a lamppost on Brickdam after she stood in the middle of the road armed with a large brick threatening to stone passing vehicles and later made good on her threat.
Stabroek News was told that two vehicles had their windscreens broken by the woman. No one would say who handcuffed her, but after about two hours police officers arrived in a vehicle, removed the cuffs and placed her in the vehicle.
She then immediately began to throw herself through the window of the police vehice, which was a minibus and the officers stopped and allowed her to leave. The woman who said she was 41 years old, announced then that she was going to make a report at the police station after which she would see her lawyer.
Persons on the scene said the woman appeared to be of unsound mind and opined that the police should have taken her away from the area.
