Neither Minister of Communities nor staff set date for village council elections

Dear Editor,

Reference is made to a letter captioned, ‘Can the Minister state definitively that the Amerindian Act has been complied with for the holding of village council elections?’ (SN, June 22). In the letter, the writer had contended that the Minister of Communities had set the date for the holding of Indigenous village council elections. The Minister of Communities wishes to state, that neither himself nor any other staff of the Ministry of Communities had any involvement in setting a date for such elections.

Yours faithfully,

Mark DaCosta

Research Officer to the Minister
