Accused cleared of toddler’s murder after third hung jury

With his third trial ending in a hung jury, Calvin Bailey was yesterday cleared of the murder of 18-month-old Shaquan Nero but he was sent right back to prison because of another pending murder charge against him.

Bailey was on trial in the High Court in Georgetown for the murder of Nero, who was killed on April 4, 2007, at Amelia’s Ward, Linden.

Bailey, who pleaded not guilty, was accused of fatally stabbing the child during an attack on the boy’s mother and his then partner, Bernadette Nero.
