Lavern Williams-Oliver, mother of 16-year-old Shemel Mercurius who was fatally shot in her New York City apartment while babysitting last week, today received a return ticket to travel for her daughter’s funeral, compliments of Fly Jamaica Airways.

Williams, who will tomorrow collect her United States visa, expressed gratitude to the airline and social activist Mark Benschop who assisted her. “I can’t put into words how grateful I feel and while it is so sad losing my only girl and first child, I get closure because I will get to see her for the last time,” Williams-Oliver told Stabroek News before breaking down weeping.
