Blocked: This bridge at the junction of Sussex and Barr streets seems to be sinking and the City Engineer’s department after visiting and assessing the condition, deemed it unfit for use and made a decision to have it closed to vehicular traffic.
Councillor of the Albouystown/Charlestown constituency, Malcolm Ferreira said he had reported the issue to the City Engineer’s department after it was brought to his attention. The department is examining the situation. Ferreira said the large volume of traffic that usually traverses the street has contributed to the bridge sinking. He added that the bridge at Hunter and Sussex streets is also sinking due to the high volume of traffic. He said that the high volume of traffic is due to persons using the community to access the East Bank Demerara public road.
