Philbert McPherson, 33, of 77 ‘B’ Field, Sophia, pleaded not guilty before city magistrate Judy Latchman to the charge of discharging his firearm on July 6, at Ernice Barnwell, the owner of a spare parts shop, at Bourda.

The incident occurred due to a dispute over money, which escalated when McPherson allegedly pulled out his gun and began firing.

Despite the defendant’s attorney, Euclin Gomes, making an application for bail on his behalf, there was an objection by the prosecution due to the severity of the crime and fear for Barnwell’s safety.

As a result, McPherson was remanded until his next court date, which is July 27.
