On 23 July 2016, representatives from the US Embassy travelled with 32 students and staff from universities around the United States to the Amerindian village of St. Cuthbert’s. A release from the US Embassy said that while in the village, the students conducted various exercises in youth leadership and team building with the 70+ school-aged youth in attendance. After some practice with traditional bow and arrows and hunting spears, the students enjoyed a traditional Guyanese lunch of “cook up.” The release said that the event was planned by members of the US Embassy and the village leader, Toshao Lennox Shuman. The students and staff are part of the Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency programme that provides college students and faculty with the opportunity to travel around the world to conduct humanitarian projects and events.
