Vigil against suicide

At the Welfare Community Centre at Canefield, Canje on Saturday, citizens lit candles as part of the observance of World Suicide Prevention Day. The vigil was organised by the East Canje Humanitarian Society in collaboration with New York-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) The Caribbean Voice. It was one of several vigils which were held across the country. The vigils, held under the theme, ‘Connect… Communicate…Care,’ were organised by several religious groups and NGOs in collaboration with The Caribbean Voice as part of its “Voices Against Violence” campaign. The Caribbean Voice has explained that this campaign is an attempt to get communities across Guyana involved in anti-violence activism, while fostering the concept of communal action for community wellbeing.
