Absent miner sentenced to nearly five years in jail for $13M Republic Park robbery

An absent Godfrey Lynch, the miner accused of robbing an elderly caretaker of over $13M in goods during an attack at a Republic Park, East Bank Demerara home, was yesterday sentenced to 58 months in jail by a city magistrate.

Lynch, 20, was found guilty and sentenced by magistrate Judy Latchman for armed robbery. The charge stated that while being armed with a gun on April 25, at Republic Park, East Bank Demerara, he robbed Yvonne Moe of $7,000,000, US$10,000 (equivalent to $2,000,000), a quantity of gold jewellery valued $4,000,000, and a pistol, valued $120,000, which were the property of Harry Narine.
