A 25-year-old man from Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice drowned after plunging into the Berbice River yesterday.
According to information gathered, Elroy Lewis of Lot 2 Sisters Village was on a field day with four of his friends when he met his demise. The four spent the day in Ithaca and upon returning home around 3:00 pm, the friends say that Lewis undressed and jumped into the river from the boat they were in. According to a police source, the four friends who are in custody assisting with the investigation disclosed that after Lewis plunged in he started to scream for help. However, before the men could render assistance Lewis disappeared under the water.
Lewis’s fiance, Venita Ally, told Stabroek News, that he left home around 08:00 am on Tuesday. She stated that her fiance did not say where he was heading. Ally said, “Then in the afternoon me get a message from them boys telling me that he was in the boat and he drowned”. Meanwhile, Lewis’s father is conducting his own private investigation.
