ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago thrashed Jamaica by 78 runs to emerge as the only unbeaten team after two rounds of the Regional Under-15 Championship here Friday.
Playing at Progress Park, the Trinidadians posted 172 for six off their 50 overs, after being sent in, with Anthonio Gomez top-scoring with 49 not out and Jayden Seales getting 34.
The pair put on 83 for the sixth wicket to rescue T&T after they slid to 83 for five in the 33rd over.
Gomez, batting at number six, faced 56 deliveries with three fours while Seales hit a four in his 50-ball knock.
In reply, Jamaica were bundled out for 94 off 36.4 overs, with leg-spinner Sameer Ali (3-22) and fast bowler Seales (3-33) combining to wreck the innings with three wickets apiece.
Romaine Jacob, batting at number seven, led with 31 off 54 deliveries with four fours but no other batsman passed 20.
Jamaica slumped to six runs for three wickets in the fourth over – as new-ball bowler Rivaldo Ramlogan struck twice in successive overs – and never really recovered.
At La Sagesse, Windward Islands beat neighbours Leeward Islands by 48 runs in a lopsided contest.
Opting to bat first, the Windwards rallied to 171 all out off 48.3 overs with opener Lee Solomon stroking 63 and Garvin Serieux hitting 53.
Kayden Felix fell cheaply for six with the score on 15 after the Windwards opted to bat, but Solomon and Serieux put on 116 for the second wicket to repair the innings.
Solomon struck four fours and a six off 111 deliveries while Serieux counted four fours and two sixes off 85 balls.
Once the pair were separated, Windwards fell away badly to lose their last nine wickets for 40 runs.
In reply, the Leewards wasted a solid start of 29 between Damien Hodge (24) and Kenny Sutton (8) to be dismissed for 123 off 39.1 overs.
Hodge was among three wickets to tumble as the Leewards slipped to 39 for three before Carlon Tuckett (16) and captain Tariq Newman (12) added 30 for the fourth wicket. The stand proved in vain as the innings fell away again.
Spinner Simeon Gerson did the damage with four for 16 while Solomon supported with three for 22, to complete a fine all-round effort.
At Tanteen, rain forced the abandonment of the contest between Barbados and Guyana, with Barbados having reached 101 for four off 36 overs, after opting to bat.
T&T lead the standings with 12.6 points with Guyana second on 7.7.
