The de-silting of the drains along Quamina Street has stalled repair works on sections of the road.

Stabroek News was told by Chief City Engineer Colvern Venture that the Mayor and City Council has commenced de-silting works on drains in alleyways to prevent flooding in the future. He explained that while road works had been initiated by the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, it was advised that the drains in the alleyways be cleared before the stretch between Camp and Waterloo streets is asphalted.

He explained it would not have been a wise decision to continue with the road works if the drains were not de-silted as future flooding would have damaged the road.

For years, the stretch of road has been prone to flooding and has been dotted with numerous potholes. Three Saturdays ago, the street finally got the attention of the authorities and road works commenced.

Workers had placed crusher run upon the commencement of the work but since the pause in works new potholes have formed and the road has become dusty. However, works on the road are expected to resume shortly.
