Court orders GPSU to postpone polls until executive produces financial records

The High Court has granted an interim injunction postponing the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) elections, which are due to be held on Monday, by nearly two weeks unless the executive council can produce the treasurer’s report for the past 12 years and the Auditor General’s report that was reportedly presented to it.

The application for the injunction, which was filed by attorney Nigel Hughes on behalf of Chairman of the union’s Guyana Geology and Mines Commission branch Gregory Gaspar, was heard on Wednesday and granted on Thursday by Justice Nareshwar Harnanan.

The subsequent order, seen by Stabroek News, states that that injunction will restrain the respondents “whether by themselves, their servants and or agents” from holding or attempting to hold an election for the executive council of the GPSU “until the 3rd day of May, 2017, or sooner on the
